Description: A Gazetteer reader in Montana writes:  ”Philipsburg Montana bills itself as a ‘19th Century Mining Town.’  I has become a tourist destination for those who want to relive the glorious frontier days of America.  The town is furnished with historical markers indicating buildings that are on the National Register of Historical Places.  Around the town of Philipsburg are ghost towns with markers describing the history of the town.  There is a true sense of community in the here.  All of the towns people celibrate the same holidays and all come out to support the volunteer fighter fighters with the Elk Feed and Clam Feed.  Last but not least, the people of this great town refuse the preasures of political correctness.  There is a bar called the White Front; and the proprieter of this historic institution will not be battered into changing the name.  As Sen. Max Baucus said, ‘Montana, it’s the way America used to be.’”  The population of Philipsburg is 923. The population of Granite County is 2853. According to the Census, Granite County is 96.6% White.
